Phil Matthews worked as sports editor for Ram
FM and Trent FM until their merger and subsequent dropping
of all sport content. He commentated on the Championship Playoff
Final between Derby County and West Bromwich Albion at Wembley
while with the station, before starting a two year stint commentating
on all Derby County matches.
He has also commentated on European Championship
football for Setanta and is a regular reporter on their Saturday
Premier League round up. He has conducted television interviews
for BBC East Midlands, Central Sport and Derby County's in-house
t v channel Vision Rams, while his radio work has included cricket
commentary for BBC Radio Derby and football for Today FM in Ireland
and R T E.
He is regularly used by TalkSport for his extensive
knowledge on the local football scene.
As a writer Phil has provided match reports for
the Derby Evening Telegraph, Burton Mail, Teletext and Sport First.
In his early days he regularly wrote for some of
the biggest football websites around including Socceritis and
Zoofootball.
